Retro Ad From November 1986, The Nike Pegasus Plus

“All Comers.”

Here is a typical Nike full page color advertisement, touting the Pegasus Plus and the NIKE Air-Wedge. It’s interesting to see a neutral shoe from Nike described as “more stable” when in today’s market the opposite seems to be the trend.

The Air Pegasus is still manufactured today, although obviously with newer and improved technology. Leave a comment, Pegasus wearers!

Tie Your Shoes The Right Way

Here is a cool way to tie your shoes in the strong form of a knot so that your shoes are less likely to become untied. It’s pretty unbelievable that most people tie their shoes incorrectly! Ok, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s still an interesting video.

Retro Ad From March 1999, The Brooks Trance

“If your feet aren’t happy, you’re not happy.”

I found this ad and immediately wanted to upload it, since I love the way Brooks advertises. They always have a positive “Run Happy” sort of ad campaign, and I think that’s the best way to advertise running because it makes you happy!

This must have been one of the first, if not the first Brooks Trance model. A cool shoe that has evolved into one of my favorite shoes today. Thanks for watching, leave a comment!

Retro Ad – October 1986 – Reebok GL6000

“GL6000. The First Performance Running Shoe With A Total Stability System.”

Admittedly, we are not the biggest Reebok fans here at The Runner’s Shop, but it is still cool to see what all the different companies were doing for diversities sake.

Reebok touted this shoe as being the first running shoe with rear and forefoot stability features. I’m not sure that it really was, but I was also 4 years old when this shoe was released so I could be wrong. All that aside, leave a comment.

Retro Ad – October 1988 – Nike Air Control II

“For Runners Who Know The Road By Heart”

Another Nike ad from an old magazine, this one featuring the Women’s Nike Air Control II, with the Nike Footbridge and Nike Air.

I’m not sure, but this shoe may have been a predecessor to the Air Structure Triax, which is still being produced. If you had a pair, don’t be shy, or just leave a comment if you enjoyed the ad!

Retro Ad – June 1986 – Turntec Flexlite

“Flexlite. Everyone else will follow in this footstep.”

This is an ad featuring Jerry Turner’s brand, Turntec.

This particular shoe featured separated rubber outsole units to increase flexibility and decrease weight, which was apparently a new concept at the time. The pattern on the outsole was intended to increase stability and shock absorption.
