The Runner's Shop, established 1979

The Runner’s Shop was founded by Dennis and Patricia Lunsford in 1979, starting as a modest 600-square-foot store at 615 Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City, nestled in the scenic Black Hills of South Dakota. From the very beginning, we were warmly embraced by the local running community, and we are profoundly grateful for that enduring support.

As the years went on, we grew alongside our community. After five years, we expanded to 1,200 square feet, and five years later, we doubled again to 1,800 square feet. In early 2005, after 25 ½ wonderful years at our original location, we were thrilled to move into our very own 3,200-square-foot store at 41 East Omaha Street.

Our growth and success wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our customers and the broader Rapid City community. We are especially honored to collaborate with local healthcare professionals who trust us to provide their patients with properly fitted footwear and supportive insoles.
