“No artificial ingredients.”
A somewhat colorful ad from 1988. They even used Kevlar in the construction of this shoe!
I hadn’t heard of the Azura ST prior to finding this ad, but it looks like it was a nice performance trainer, in a similar category to the Asics DS trainer. Leave a comment after the jump.
I bought my first pair of Azuras in 1989. It’s still my favorite shoe dozens of running shoes later. I bought three pairs of this model then bought two pairs of its update (which wasn’t nearly as good). I’d love to find an abandoned warehouse with a few size 11’s sitting on a shelf.
Ian, have you tried the Saucony Echelon 2? In today’s line that is probably the closest thing. Otherwise you might be able to turn up a pair on ebay if you’re lucky.
The Azura was my first go with Saucony back-in-the-day (1989), Also, one of the best training shoes I’d ever bought. Scott Tinely (then sponsored by Saucony) had a hand in making this shoe, from what I was told. They came out with a revamped Azura the following year, but alas, it didn’t have the same fit and feel. Too bad, because I really miss my old Azura’s!!!
Great to hear your story, I hope you can find another perfect fit!
